A man has appeared in court charged with raping and grooming a 12-year-old girl.
Jack Smoothy, 21 from Yate, appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Saturday morning.
Smoothy is charged with raping the girl between September 30 and October 31.
He is also charged with grooming the girl after allegedly contacting her on more than one occasion. The charge relates to activity on social media.
The alleged rape happened in the Bristol area.

Sex offender on the run
A sex offender has absconded from an open prison.Richard Anthony Lloyd, 33, has not been seen at HMP Leyhill since 5.45pm on Friday.Lloyd is currently serving a custodial sentence for serious sexual offences, harassment and assault.
He has been described him as a white male, about 5ft 8ins, of proportionate build, with a shaved head.
He has links to the Kidderminster, West Bromwich and Telford areas.

Child abuser jailed almost 40 years after offences were committed
A man who abused a six-year-old nearly 40 years ago has been jailed.
Jon Yearsley was sentenced to two years and eight months behind bars after preying on the young girl, when he was aged around 17 and 18.
Yearsley, of Whiting Road in Withywood, was found guilty of two counts of indecent assault on a child under 13 and a further charge of gross indecency on a child during the 1970s following a trial.

Thomas Downey murder: Trial of accused Darrell Richards to begin...
The trial into the death of Thomas Downey is due to begin later today.
Darrell Richards, 46 and of no fixed address, stands charged with Mr Downey's murder in Bath last Christmas.
The body of Mr Downey was found under an archway, off Lower Bristol Road on Christmas Eve 2014. He had died from significant head injuries.
Richards denies the charge.
The trial, expected to last up to two weeks, will begin at Bristol Crown Court at 2pm on Tuesday, December 8.

Terrian Wall, 52, of St Judes, Bristol, pleaded guilty to three counts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

Bath brothers plead guilty to flytipping
Two brothers from Twerton have pleaded guilty to flytipping in parts of Bath and South Gloucestershire.
Bath brothers Zachary Adams, 28, and Felix Adams, 25, of Tanners Walk, admitted four offences of dumping waste on roadsides.
They were ordered to pay £600 in costs, work 100 hours unpaid and be subject to a year's Community Order when they appeared at North Avon Magistrates' Court on Friday, April 15.

Fa'osiliva admitted assaulting 21-year-old Nissi Kyeremeh, causing him actual bodily harm (ABH), in an unprovoked attack in SouthGate before Bath magistrates on Thursday.
